Air Drops AD602: SOFIA 747SP + AD603: F-100D Super Sabre

Series 6 is off to a great start with the NC-130B and now SOFIA and the F-100D. 

AD602 has been cut from various components that were part of the NASA SOFIA Program. They are offered in Rudder Tab (Sheet 1), Wing Skin (Sheet 2), and URD (Sheet 3). 

Material Info: We acquired a large lot of SOFIA parts directly from NASA in early 2024. These parts are a combination of overhauled parts and flown parts. 

Rudder Tab (white composite Air Drops): The Rudder Tab, serial number 046, was delivered to NASA after receiving a new seal and NASA white paint (according to paperwork). This rudder tab was not on the aircraft when it was retired in 2022, and its flight history prior to 2015 was not included in the documentation. We do not know if/when this rudder tab was flown on SOFIA, but it’s connection with the program is well documented.

Wing Skin (grey aluminum Air Drops): We acquired numerous SOFIA wing components (spoilers, leading/trailing edges, etc). Some are freshly overhauled and others are removed parts. The Wing components we have allocated for this run are flown components as evidenced by their use. Based on removal tags we believe these may have been flown on SOFIA early in the program. 

URD (Upper Rigid Door composite Air Drops): The URD are especially neat as they were cut from composite panels from the Upper Rigid Door, which was part of the door assembly that opened in flight to allow the telescope an unobstructed view of the night sky. The URD are a unique "SOFIA only" item that was only ever designed for that application.  

AD603 has been cut from titanium aft fuselage skin removed from F-100D S/N: 56-2995. This aircraft flew numerous combat missions in Vietnam and featured "Cong Killer" nose art. It is currently on display in Warner Robins, GA.

AD603 is offered in 2 designs: Otis (Sheet 1) and Vietnam (Sheet 2).

Otis come on "blue" cards that feature the jet as it was painted while on display at Otis Air Force Base. These Air Drops are all titanium and feature original paint in a variety of colors. 

Vietnam come on cards that feature the jet flying in Vietnam and are raw titanium. 

A combo is offered that comes with a SOFIA URD + an F-100D Raw Titanium.
