The P-51 Mustang went from drawing to prototype in an astonishing102 days. The production aircraft provided the necessary escort for heavy Allied bombers all the way to Berlin and back. The P-51D, the definitive version, entered service in mid-1944 and replaced the razorback variants in Europe.
Our 3rd Propeller Core installment have been cut from a Merlin powered P-51D blade. This blade was installed on former military P-51D S/N: 45-11318, a survivor that was fully restored to airworthy and painted as "Glamorous Glen III". In 2001 this aircraft experienced a total engine failure and its crew bailed out. The airframe was totally written off. We acquired this blade several years ago.
We cut 28 cores from this single blade. They are offered in Painted (Cores featuring yellow, blue, white, and/or red paint) and Black.
All prop cores are laser etched with a planform view of the Mustang and ship with a resin printed base and placard featuring with the same checkered pattern on this aircraft's final livery.
Joining the Cores are a handful of P-51D TRAPs cut from various wing components from unknown P-51 airframes. The TRAPs are offered in Grey and Green.
