JETs Vol. 26-27: L-1329 FANSTAR
Earlier this year I was on the hunt for drop tanks for a project and came across a couple of huge slipper fuel tanks. They had been sprayed grey but were odd enough that I wanted to investigate further. The data plates confirmed they belonged to the JetStar family, and a closer look revealed “FANSTAR” painted underneath the grey.
Later research confirmed the FANSTAR tanks belonged to a one-of-a-kind L-1329 JetStar that featured CF34 turbofans in place of the standard turbojets: N380AA. The CF34 itself is a civil version of the TF34, which is used on the A-10 and S-3.
Despite its unique pedigree, the grey paint really killed the original livery. But with some shop alchemy and elbow grease, we were able to completely remove it, revealing the vibrant red, white, and blue paint underneath.
JETs Vol. 26-27 features 300 tags cut from a slipper tank removed from N380AA, is offered in six variants, and comes on a righteous card by 8380 Laboratories.
Variants: White, Red, Blue, Red/White, Blue/White, Red/White/Blue. The Red/White/Blue tags feature a white center with the Red and Blue on the top and bottom of the tag.
Tag Art: Choose between a laser etched Planform design or a color printed tag featuring the 8380 art.
Full Set: 3 Full Sets are offered that come with 1 of each variant. Note: You must choose tag art. If you would like your set to feature different art, please email us after placing your order.
This release is made-to-order. Instead of cutting the entire 300-tag run ahead of time, we’ve worked ahead on the special colors that are always popular amongst collectors, but instead of cutting a bunch of solid colors and leaving them on the site, we’re closing the order window for this first “Flight” of 26-27 on Friday, Sept. 25 at midnight.
What remains of the 300-tag run will be released at a later date and may feature different art, etc.
