The F-104

The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a lightweight, high-performance fighter developed by Lockheed’s famed Skunk Works. First flown in 1954, the Starfighter’s slender fuselage, razor-thin wings and powerful General Electric J79 engine gave it exceptional climb performance and speeds exceeding Mach 2. The “missile with a man in it” entered service in 1958 and served as both an interceptor and tactical fighter - later becoming an important Cold War aircraft for numerous allied air forces around the world.

JETs Vol. 26-26 has been cut from a wing removed from F-104A S/N 56-0784. This aircraft served with several U.S. interceptor units, including the Arizona Air National Guard’s 197th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron. During the Berlin Crisis of 1961, 56-0784 deployed with the 197th to Ramstein Air Base, West Germany, where the squadron stood air-defense alert as part of the American reinforcement of NATO.

JETs Vol. 26-26 is offered in 7 variants: Grey, White, USAF (cut from the USAF stenciling), Roundel Blue, Roundel Red, Blue/Grey, and Red/White/Blue. All JETs come on a card by 8380 Laboratories.
