Description

The AT-38B Talon was a weaponized training variant of Northrop’s supersonic T-38, developed to better prepare U.S. Air Force pilots for the realities of combat aviation. Entering service in 1975 as part of the LIFT (Lead-in-Fighter Training) program, the AT-38B was modified with external hardpoints, a gunsight, and upgraded avionics. While it never served as a frontline combat aircraft, the AT-38B played a critical role in teaching air-to-ground tactics, weapons delivery, and high-performance jet handling, bridging the gap between basic jet flight training and operational fighters. Its effectiveness and reliability helped shape modern USAF training philosophies. The AT-38B was retired in 1991 but left a lasting legacy as a key step in producing combat-ready fighter pilots.

We acquired an AT-38B Talon vertical stabilizer in 2023 from an aircraft boneyard. It was removed from U.S. Air Force aircraft S/N: 68-8168 - an AT-38B that served with Tactical Air Command.

JETs Vol. 26-03 is offered in 8 variants: Light Blue (Plane Old Art edition), Dark Blue, Grey, Green, Green/Light Blue, Camo, Stencil, and TAC.

The Plane Old Art edition light blue variant features a color printed tag on an all-metal card cut from T-38A fuselage panels. The art used for this edition was originally used for an AT-38 tag we released several years ago and is one of our favorites.

All other variants come on a hang card featuring art by Ryan Roadkill.

Talon Combo: Light Blue (Plane Old Art Edition) + TAC (full decals)
