We’re excited to bring some Thunderstreak to the tag world! It’s an awesome jet from an iconic era of aircraft development and design, and the tag itself is cut from a very special part of the aircraft.
The F-84F:
Evolving from the straight-wing Republic F-84 Thunderjet, the enhanced F-84F Thunderstreak was a swept-wing variant developed to contend with the North American F-86 Sabre. The Thunderjet was the first fighter capable of carrying a nuclear weapon.
Powered by a single Wright J65 axial-flow turbojet engine, the Thunderstreak excelled in cruise performance, reaching a maximum speed of 695 miles per hour, and exhibited predictable handling characteristics within its performance envelope.
The Thunderstreak entered service in November 1954 and became the frontline fighter-bomber of NATO throughout the 1950s.
The airframe was among the first to perform with the US Air Force Thunderbirds and became the first aircraft capable of night photography in its reconnaissance role.
Our tags were cut from the “special weapons” pylon that carried the Mk-7 Thor nuclear bomb. This pylon housed an X61B bomb rack and only carried the Mk-7. When carried, this pylon was usually mounted on the left side of the aircraft on the inboard wing station.
These very special tags are offered in 4 variants: Raw Laser Etched, Raw Printed, Green, and Stencil. All tags feature the same artwork. The Raw Printed tags are the only printed tag offered this release. The Green tags were cut from interior structure near the bomb rack and are a unique green color. They also pair well with the card art by BVR.
The Stencil tags feature portions of the black and yellow stenciling on the outside of the pylon. Many of the Raw Laser Etched tags feature some portions of a stencil but not as prominently as the Stencil tags.
Also offered is a Thunder Set (Green Tag + Stencil), and a Tag/Drop Combo (Raw Printed Tag + F-84F Air Drop).
The Add-a-Tag option is to add a randomly selected tag from our complete inventory to your order. The only requirement is that an F-84F tag must be purchased prior to or with your Add-a-Tag order. There are no returns on Add-a-Tags.
Only 152 tags were made from this pylon and we expect these to move quickly.
